Dear parents, dear teachers, dear students,

As the first semester draws to a close, I would like to inform you about some changes:

1. The Arabic exams have been successfully completed by the students.

2. On Tuesday, February 10th, the sports day for grades 9-12 will take place. All students in these grades should wear sports clothing on this day. The day is being organized by the 12th grade.

3. The mid-year report cards will be handed out on Thursday, February 12th, after the second period. Following this, the school carnival celebration for all students and teachers will take place until 1 p.m. Further information has been sent out in a separate letter.

4. There will be no classes on Sunday, February 15, 2026. All students will work on assignments at home, as the "Practical Training Day" in preparation for the BLI will take place for all teachers under the direction of Ms. Katrin Trautmann, AQM

5. Ramadan will fall on Wednesday, February 18th or 19th, 2026. There will be no school on this day; however, as the exact date is not yet certain, we will inform you shortly beforehand. This is for your information only. From Sunday, February 22nd, 2026, classes will resume according to the Ramadan schedule with shortened hours, and the school day will end earlier as usual.

6. Ms. Nadia Motalib has left the school at her own request. Class 6a is taught in English by Mr. Marwan and class 6b by Ms. Rania Fekry. In addition, Mr. Mina Rashed provides supplementary German lessons in both classes

7. Ms. Silvia Gennari will send all information about the reading competition to teachers, students, and parents as soon as possible. It will take place in the library after the professional development day. The jury consists of Ms. Silvia Gennari, Mr. Artur Riedel, and Ms. Silvia Chylka.

8. Ms. Nadine Steiln (Deputy Head of Primary School at DEO) visited our school for a day. A return visit by our Primary School Head (Ingy Sami) and Amira Svoboda (Deputy Head of Primary School) is planned to observe classes, exchange ideas, and collaborate.

9. Mr. Usama Wahab (music) has left the school and Ms. Nur Sherif has successfully taken over all of Mr. Usama's music lessons as well as the department leadership initially until the end of the school year.

10. Furthermore, the school administration conducts interviews with teachers for the German program. They are primarily looking for teachers with German teaching qualifications.

11. The oral DSD 1 exams will take place on February 24th and 25th. Students in grade 9 should stay home on these days and only come to school for their scheduled exam. Ms. Silvia Gennari will send the schedule to the students and colleagues as soon as possible.

12. For the first time, the DSBHK will participate in the Pyramid Run on Friday, February 13th. The invitation comes from Mr. Klein, Sports Department, DEO. Many thanks to Mr. Tamer for the organization.

13. The information packet for newly hired teachers has been revised and will be published shortly on our website. Parents will also find information there regarding disciplinary procedures for rule violations.

14. The school has hired a new psychologist who will work two days a week for the German School, and will divide the other days between the National and American Schools. A written introduction will follow soon.

15. Ms. Enas Taha has officially taken up her position as German as a Foreign Language (DaF) coordinator for the primary school and moved into her office on the second floor. Ms. Silvia Gennari, DaF/German as a Foreign Language (DaF/DFU) coordinator for the secondary school, will also soon move in there so that the two can work together on the school's internal concept for training teachers for the BLI (Basic Learning Instruction). In the future, in-house professional development courses will be offered by the two of them in close cooperation with the professional development coordinator, Ms. Katrin Trautmann.

16. Many thanks to the student council for organizing the Pyjama Day and for their help with the Carnival celebration, as well as to Ms. Ingy Sami, Ms. Banafsheh Zahedi- Zurheide and Ms. Sherine Zoheir.
